Homely food, home delivered! Maiya’s

I don’t understand this phenomenon of wishing for “a home made” feel when we eat out or are ordering in. Unless the food is being cooked in someone’s home, it can’t be cannit? But mine not to question why, just order!

Maiya’s (of MTR fame) in Jayanagar 4th Block has started a free home delivery service a few months back. We sampled it (the food and the delivery) only last week, and it was very homey. The food was nice and the packaging neat.

What drew us to the phone (43311111) was the North Karnataka meal – 2 jolada rottis (corn rotis), 1 serving yennegai (eggplant curry, very typical and very special to the cuisine of North Karnataka), the garlic and chilli chutney powder, capsicum flavoured rice (a generous helping), one cup of curd and another dish whose name eludes me just now – all for a – waiting for this – stunning price of Rs.45.

It was way worth it. The rottis are slightly small compared to Kamat Yatrinivas, for example, but along with everything else in this meal, you couldn’t eat more.

north karnataka mealThis comes in the Packed Meal category, though you can order just the jolada rottis and curry separately as well. Other packed meals include South Indian Meals (one with rice dishes only, one with chapatis and rice ) at Rs.40 each; a North Indian meal at Rs.45, a Gujarathi meal also at Rs.45.  The breakfast spread has all the south Indian delicacies like dosas, idlis and vadas. They also have a small menu of starters, rotis and curries.

They have strict timings for ordering breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is between 7 am and 9 am. Lunch is between 12.30 pm and 2.30 pm.  The last slot for ordering in is 4 pm to 9 pm.

Maiya’s Restaurants also offer other products for delivery like cakes and pastries from their bakery.

    Hi Anu,

I think that is “Jhunaka”!! It can be prepared both in solid & gravy form.usually solid form is used to carry for a journey.
