Snack in a box, raw mango, skewered

‘Tis the bitter-sweet season. Heat and rain, bleary-eyed school mornings and fun snack box-packing. Yerrrsssssss! Another school year begins and it’s time to put on those thinking chef hats (they called toques, seriously?!).

My older one loves raw mango, so this is a first time attempt to get that into the snack box and make it look interesting enough to wolf down in those precious 10 minutes before making time to play, even!

Just three basic elements, when combined, make almost anything palatable to a 9 year old! Salt, sugar and a smattering of chilli. Mix all the three, dip chopped pieces of raw mango (the thothapuri variety) and skewer. If you have fancy skewers, more fun!

Good to keep the mango chilled. And mix your seasoning just before packing, else the sugar will start melting in this summer heat because the salt content!

    We don’t get the thothapuri variety here, but we make do with what we get, which is actually not too bad.
