Poached All-Spice Pears

This is a really simple desert that tastes delicious – especially after a heavy predominantly non veg meal… It is from an oriental cookbook I have, but it goes well with anything really. I served it with continental fish and veggies…

INGREDIENTS:
3 large ripe pears coredand quartered, 1 and 1/4 cup orange juice (I used fresh), 2 tsp ground allspice (cinnamon, 2 – 3 cloves 1/4 nutmeg), 1/3 cups raisins, 2 tbsp brown sugar, grated orange rind to decorate.

METHOD:
Place the pear quarters in a large saucepan. Add all other ingredients and stir gently till the sugar has dissolved. Boil for a minute. Then simmer till pears are cooked.

Serve hot with the remaining syrup and cream.

hey ayesha – you can cut down on the 2 tbsp brown sugar if you like it less sweet.. Especially if teh oranges you use are sweet, that’s more than enough…
