The Other Crescent, Jayanagar

Jayanagar is suddenly sprouting restaurants like never before. Not just darshinis, but ‘continental’ ones… So when the continental mood strikes and you don’t want to venture as far as Indiranagar (wink) try this one. And I think it’s worth traveling from Indiranagar as well :). This restaurant’s called The Other Crescent and is housed in a complex with two others (Presto and Enchante).

So Meena, Purnima and me chose this one for our monthly lunch and weren’t disappointed at all! It’ airy and bright, a feeling of open space. Presto is on the ground floor. Walk up a flight to The Other Crescent – and seating here is plenty – on two levels.

The fear with any new continental restaurant in the city is that they may have no clue and serve you pasta with rasam powder. Or the chef is French :) and it will be way too expensive. This one’s neither.

They have a north Indian menu as well, but we decided to go continental. We tried a simple bruschetta and creole chicken wings for starters. The bruschetta was excellent. The wings were a bit too saucy but tasted great. A little on the sweeter side but good!

bruschetta creole chicken wingsTheir wine list is not extensive. The menu does not say which brand of wine they serve. It just says Indian and imported. You need to ask for the names and vintages. Our bottle of South African white wine (10 Chapters) went great with all of the types of food we had.

For the main course we had a dry pasta, couscous with herbed rice and a vegetable sizzler with rice again (you can get it with mashed potatoes instead). The pasta and the vegetables in the sizzler were a tad spicy. So if you like non-spicy food, it’s good to let the staff know you’d like to go easy on the spice. The coucous was mint flavored and was fresh and aromatic.

pasta couscous We shared a dessert – strawberry pastry which was very fresh and light. And a lemon cheesecake which wasn’t too fresh. Check what dessert they have made freshly for the day. (I had to remind myself to keep taking pics!)

The service is good. But probably because it’s new, the staff are a bit too mindful and keep hanging around asking how the food is at every turn. They could perhaps ease off on that!

may be becoz we didnt get to sit in the first floor(where the ambiance is good). so, ended up sitting in the second floor which is like a party hall. chose to go for north indian, food was ok though.
