Palak saag (spinach curry)

This is a very simple way of cooking spinach. I love this recipe so much, that I fry ‘paneer’ on the side and add in it  to make my own version of Palak-Paneer.


  • Spinach (Palak), finely chopped
  • Ginger, finely grated
  • Green Chillies, finely chopped (1-2)
  • Oil, 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin Seeds
  • Haldi – Turmeric Powder, 1 teaspoon
  • Red Chilli powder, acc to taste
  • Salt, acc to taste
  • Ghee, 1 teaspoon


  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. When oil is hot, add ginger and green chillies.
  3. When the ginger and green chillies are done, add the finely chopped spinach.
  4. Add Haldi, red chilli powder, and salt.
  5. Mix everything together.
  6. Turn the gas on slow, and cover.
  7. Keep stirring it in intervals till the spinach is cooked.
  8. Separately, heat ghee in a pan.
  9. When the ghee is hot, add cumin seeds.
  10. When the cumin seeds begin to crackle, pour this over the cooked spinach.
  11. Mix well, and serve hot.
